See where the total came from
Explore spending by category rather than treating the monthly total as the whole answer. Keep large essentials in context alongside the smaller purchases that are easier to change.
Compare periods with context
Use your spending history to investigate changes over time. Check that the periods contain comparable data before treating an increase or decrease as a change in behaviour.
Bring one observation into your plan
You do not need to fix every category at once. Pick a change worth making, set a target in Spending Plan, and return to it in your next review.
Good to know
A few practical questions.
Why might a total differ from my bank balance?
Spending is not the same as an account balance. Date ranges, categories, exclusions and missing transactions can also affect what a spending view includes.
Is rent included?
Yes. Rent is included by default in spending analytics, so large essentials stay part of your monthly picture.

Bring in your transactions, review your categories, and give the next month a plan.
